Summary

Windsor Horne Lockwood III。

Good reader。 An overly complicated book。The kind of book you finish, but have lost track of the different twists。 I wasn’t a fan of the main character, but I don’t think I was supposed to like him。

Harlan Coben is 1 of my favourite writers and always loved the Myron Bolitar series。 Win is such a good character。 Read this book fast, a real page turner with a great story。 The reason for low review found the constant description of details of cars, planes, buildings, clothes etc unnecessary。

3。25/5Harlan Coben is a good writer and his books are generally good, but I just couldn't connect with this protagonist。 Win is a rich playboy whose missing family art piece is found in a murdered hoarder's apartment。 This leads Win into a twisted web of 60s radicals, family secrets, and murder most foul。 3。25/5Harlan Coben is a good writer and his books are generally good, but I just couldn't connect with this protagonist。 Win is a rich playboy whose missing family art piece is found in a murdered hoarder's apartment。 This leads Win into a twisted web of 60s radicals, family secrets, and murder most foul。 。。。more

Great introduction to a character you read so much about in other books。

I've tended to only read Coben's standalone books as I wasn't a huge fan of Myron Bolitar。 With this new series being based on Myron's best friend, Win, I wasn't too hyped for it。 Then I found myself at the airport sans reading materials and grabbed this one in a rush。 Super stoked I did。I realized I wasn't a huge fan of Myron because he was too perfect of a character。 I like Win much more with his gray areas and rough edges。 He operates on a moral code that allows him to do some fairly question I've tended to only read Coben's standalone books as I wasn't a huge fan of Myron Bolitar。 With this new series being based on Myron's best friend, Win, I wasn't too hyped for it。 Then I found myself at the airport sans reading materials and grabbed this one in a rush。 Super stoked I did。I realized I wasn't a huge fan of Myron because he was too perfect of a character。 I like Win much more with his gray areas and rough edges。 He operates on a moral code that allows him to do some fairly questionable things。 I like those questions。 I like that he asks them of himself and the reader。As for the mystery, Coben had enough plot threads that made it tough to guess the full plot and made for a fun read。 I'm excited for the next in the series。 。。。more

Solid 3。5 stars。 I could easily have rated it 4 stars if the story was more interesting (I’m specifically talking about the subject matter … not the plot or character development)。Coben did a very good job with a character who can be repulsive at times。 Would definitely consider reading other books in the series。

I hadn't read a Harlan Coben for ages and I really enjoy the various series on Netflix。 So I approached this with interest。 Corben's plots are intelligent and his characters usually pretty amenable。 In Win, I found myself disliking the main protagonist of the title name。 Windsor Horne Lockwood 111 is an arrogant, hugely wealthy, slightly effete character whose privilege allows him to pursue a course of unorthodox justice。 A sort of modern day super hero with an irritating habit of answering the I hadn't read a Harlan Coben for ages and I really enjoy the various series on Netflix。 So I approached this with interest。 Corben's plots are intelligent and his characters usually pretty amenable。 In Win, I found myself disliking the main protagonist of the title name。 Windsor Horne Lockwood 111 is an arrogant, hugely wealthy, slightly effete character whose privilege allows him to pursue a course of unorthodox justice。 A sort of modern day super hero with an irritating habit of answering the phone with 'Articulate'。 That aside I liked the fact he was righting the wrongs for abused women, tackling (literally) men who were never going to see the inside of a court - a vigilante is more how I would describe him。 Getting past the ethics, after all this is a story, Win always wins!! When a recluse is found murdered and in his possession is a briefcase bearing Win's initials and a Vermeer painting, stolen some 20 years ago when his cousin Patricia was kidnapped, Win is on the trail。 Family image is everything and Win is not going to allow that to be tarnished。 With help from his FBI friends, it's a racy story with loads of twists and turns and some softness when Win's mask slips。 A fast read with the potential of a great TV series。 Thank you to Penguin Random House for the review copy。 。。。more

Didn't love it, didn't hate it。 I would give 3。5。 The main character is interesting。 I wanted to like him, but he was a bit too cocky and dry for me。 I almost warmed to him but couldn't。 It's funny because I thought his "best friend" was an alter ego for half the book lol Then I heard there are other books where the best friend is the main character, so maybe I would like Win as the supporting character。 The story was just ok for me。 Didn't love it, didn't hate it。 I would give 3。5。 The main character is interesting。 I wanted to like him, but he was a bit too cocky and dry for me。 I almost warmed to him but couldn't。 It's funny because I thought his "best friend" was an alter ego for half the book lol Then I heard there are other books where the best friend is the main character, so maybe I would like Win as the supporting character。 The story was just ok for me。 。。。more

I did not enjoy this book anywhere close to other Harlan Coben books。 This story was indeed all about Windsor Horne Lockwood III aka Win。 It cast Win not only as a super rich individual who was great friends with Myron Bolivar but Myron was not in this story。 Win was shown as someone who had no conscience if he decided he was righting a wrong - showed no mercy to the guilty party either。 I thought the book was too long - it was based on Win trying to solve a mystery that took place many years be I did not enjoy this book anywhere close to other Harlan Coben books。 This story was indeed all about Windsor Horne Lockwood III aka Win。 It cast Win not only as a super rich individual who was great friends with Myron Bolivar but Myron was not in this story。 Win was shown as someone who had no conscience if he decided he was righting a wrong - showed no mercy to the guilty party either。 I thought the book was too long - it was based on Win trying to solve a mystery that took place many years before when 2 priceless paintings were stolen from his family and his cousin was taken hostage。 The entire book follows up on trying to determine who was responsible and where they are now。 。。。more

Harlan Coben is never bad, but this was not one of his best efforts。Not the page turner that he usually is。

Harlan Coben need not be embarrassed about this book。 It is well-written and interesting。 But I don’t much like Win and I didn’t much care about his quest。

Charismatic main character, if a bit overdrawn, and the story unwound to a reasonable ending but I am not sure I would read more as I am female。。 To me, it seemed that the female characters were there to illustrate aspects of Win's character as opposed to being fleshed out to be real people。 Charismatic main character, if a bit overdrawn, and the story unwound to a reasonable ending but I am not sure I would read more as I am female。。 To me, it seemed that the female characters were there to illustrate aspects of Win's character as opposed to being fleshed out to be real people。 。。。more

Coben is a pro, but too much of a pro。 The conceit of the protagonist, Win, is: 1) he's uber wealthy, in perfect shape, elfinly beautiful, a martial arts superhero, has sex with whoever he wants whenever he wants; 2) he is a vigilante; 3) he talks directly to the reader, at one point calling what he is writing a novel, which breaks the fourth wall painfully。 You know at that point this is not a real story, but one written by Coben, a fiction, which we already know of course, but the writer has t Coben is a pro, but too much of a pro。 The conceit of the protagonist, Win, is: 1) he's uber wealthy, in perfect shape, elfinly beautiful, a martial arts superhero, has sex with whoever he wants whenever he wants; 2) he is a vigilante; 3) he talks directly to the reader, at one point calling what he is writing a novel, which breaks the fourth wall painfully。 You know at that point this is not a real story, but one written by Coben, a fiction, which we already know of course, but the writer has to stand up and say, "Hello, don't forget, this book is about me。" There are more facets to the conceit, but these are so worn out as to be almost comical, except for the fourth wall thing, which is absolutely brutal。 They wear thin quickly, but not greatly so。 The book is a quick read, has almost no superfluousness, and is a decent story with good characters (if you're down with The Batperson)。 The guy can definitely write, but it's the same old stuff I've seen countless times。 Why Coben felt it necessary for Win to call this writing a novel, by addressing the reader with this info, is beyond me。 It could have been a long missive that seemed like a real thing, but he makes sure we know it's fiction。 The only thing this accomplishes is to draw needless attention to the writer。 Some might find it cool。 I find it odious, a huge turnoff, but I guess he has his reasons (boundless ego)。 It's all tongue in cheek and wonderfully droll and 。。。 ugh。 The book passes the time fairly well without making me think the writer is terrible, which he isn't, but I have no interest in anything else he's done。 The last line in the book is really good。 I laughed and thought how cool the book is。 Then I thought some more and realized I'm never reading another one。 Formulaic, predictable, staid, pretty much the same as twenty or so books I've read by this kind writer, none of whom I've liked。 Clancy, Cussler, Coben, et al。 Braggarts all。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this one。 I liked that though it alluded to Myron, it didn't actually have him in it。 I always liked Win as a character in all the books and loved that he ended up with his own story this time。 He was completely Win!
